Woke to a magnificent sunny day and have just found out that
the road up to Quilpie is flooded and closed – unbelievable. Don’t think we are meant to get to the
Birdsville races with all the obstacles being thrown at us so far. Have decided to go as far as Toompine and wait
it out. Luckily when we arrived at Toompine the publican let us know that there
is a dirt back road that is open and also a very good road so it is off we go
once again. Glorious sunny day and from
Quilpie to Windorah there is lots of flooding and water over the road. Have managed to find a dry spot at Thylungra
Rest Area approx. 140kms south of Windora, great fire as they guys cut a
little tree down and set up for a nice quiet night……..hahahah. Another 6 caravans
have pulled into the camp as well as 2 x 4WD with tents on the top and a motor
home, all nice and quiet and into bed by 8.00pm. BUT at 8.05pm 6 road trains went
thundering along the road which wasn’t as far away as we thought and with 3
cattle grids to pass over and the amount of wheels that 6 road trains have on
them it was very, very noisy for a little while. All we could do was lay in bed and laugh…..
