1st September 2016 - Birdsville

Woke to rain and it has continued to rain all day, so much for the lovely weather yesterday that has now disappeared.  While sitting here watching the rain, 2 x 4WD's tried to come along the track to camp past us and got bogged and then after a lot of pushing and shoving decided to leave.  It was pouring and the mud is inches deep now and I felt a bit sorry for them as they had 3 teenage kids with them, terrible time to be trying to put up tents. The roads into Birdsville are now all closed so we are trapped here until they open them up again.  Races for tomorrow have been rescheduled for Sunday and I think everyone is hoping that the Saturday races can still go ahead.  Apparently this is the most rain Birdsville and surrounding areas have had for 70 years. Typical that this is the year we have decided to come.
